AFRICA: Afruibana promotes sustainable agriculture and joins IAM Africa
29 January 2021Afruibana (the Association of African Producers of Banana and Other Fruits) is now among the 112 signatories of the commitment charter of the International Agroecological Movement of Africa (IAM Africa). Established on the occasion of the One Planet Summit 2021, held in Paris on 11 January, this multilateral initiative aims to reinvigorate agricultural cooperation between Europe and Africa, whilst ensuring the protection of biodiversity.
IAM Africa seeks to bring together, among its signatories, the complementary expertise of African stakeholders active in these sectors and European actors recognised for their technical and financial knowledge and their experience of the challenges associated with African development. This partnership will place particular emphasis on the structuring of agro-livestock value chains that encourage the deployment of agroecological practices as well as the creation of decent and sustainable jobs. IAM Africa thus responds to multiple challenges of economic sustainability in the sector, but also to the pressing needs for social equity, transparency, and respect for the environment and Africa’s natural resources.
